Xestoleberis was named by Sars (1866) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Xestoleberididae.
It was assigned to Cytheridae by Alexander (1934); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Xestoleberididae by Blaszyk (1987) and Babinot and Colin (2011).
