Berycidarum splendidus was named by Prochazka (1893). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Scopelus splendidus by Weiler (1950); it was recombined as Diaphus splendidus by Girone et al. (2006); it was recombined as Myctophum splendidum by Brauer (1904), Holec (1975) and Schwarzhans and Aguilera (2013).
