S. de la Fuente et al. 2018Neotropical tortoises diagnosed by a collapse of the foramen nervi glossopharyngei onto the fenestra postotica, and anterior reduction of the inner dentary crest in the cranium; carapace without cervical scute, first neural hexagonal with short postero-lateral sides (subject to variation), contact between pleural 3 and marginal 6, large entoplastron, pectoral scutes in the plastron narrower in the midline and antero-posteriorly expanded toward the marginal scutes, and loss of isolated spur corneous.
