V. M. Chkhikvadze 2000This genus is characterized by wide nuchal. Preneural present. There are 7 or 8 neurals and 8 pairs of costals. Tetragonal neural is the VI. Wedge-shaped pattern is unordered; for instance in splendidus the most wedge-shaped are II, V and VI costals and in allani – the II and VII costals. VII pair of costals in splendidus and allani is small, and the VIIth is strongly reduced also in splendidus. Thus the posterior margin of the carapace is formed by last two and in splendidus even last three pairs of costals. The plastron of allani is superficially is similar to Aspideretes sensu stricto (for instance A. gangeticus), however, antero-medial process of hypoplastron is not separated in allani. Besides these the lateral processes of hyo-and hypoplastron in Eugenechelys are comparatively long.
[Note. It cannot be excluded that relatively long processes of hyo-and hypoplastron in allani are due to young age of the specimen, as it has suprascapular fontanels and the length of the carapace is only 295 mm. The carapace length in another species of the same genus (splendidus) is 538 mm].
