Taxonomy
Dasyatis charlisae was named by Case (1981). Its type specimen is USNM 23563, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Huber Kaolin Quarry, which is in an Eocene marine claystone in the Jacksonian Formation of Georgia.
