Taxonomy
Hainosaurus neumilleri was named by Martin (2007). Its type specimen is SDSM 75705, a partial skeleton (Partial skull, paddle bones, and associated vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bank of the Missouri River, which is in a Campanian marine sandstone/shale in the Pierre Shale Formation of South Dakota.

Martin 2007A medium-sized tylosaurine mosasaur with pineal opening shared by the frontal and parietal; interdigitating anterior premaxillary-maxillary suture; relatively wide snout; quadrate with distinct, sharp triangular ridge on the lateral margin of the infrastapedial; quadrate with large, deep, bowl-shaped excavation incorporating the stapedial pit and covering much of the medial quadrate; suprastapedial with relatively long internal process; suprastapedial deflected laterally compared with axis perpendicular to distal condyle; teeth relatively well faceted and symmetrically flattened.
