Taxonomy
Cephalaspidae was named by Huxley (1861). Its type is Cephalaspis. It was considered unknown by Moy-Thomas and Mile (1971).

It was assigned to Chondrostei by Huxley (1861); to Osteostraci by Hay (1902) and Bryant (1933); to Cephalaspida by Gardiner (1966); to Cephalaspidida by Moy-Thomas and Mile (1971); and to Cephalaspidiens by Janvier (1985).
