Kourisodon puntledgensis

Taxonomy
Kourisodon puntledgensis was named by Nicholls and Meckert (2002). Its type specimen is CDM 022, a partial skeleton (Incomplete skull and mandible, vertebral column and ribs, right humerus, left pectoral girdle, and front limb), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Puntledge River Kourisodon Type Locality, which is in a Santonian marine siliciclastic in the Pender Formation of Canada.

Meckert 2002Small mosasaur, diagnosed by the following combination of characters: prominent supraorbital process, extensive edentulous prow on dentary, 14–16 teeth on the maxilla, teeth laterally compressed shearing blades, humerus with well-developed ectepicondyle and entepicondyle, radius distally expanded, metacarpal I expanded proximally. Differs from
other members of the Mosasaurinae in the short maxillary– premaxillary suture and the slender shape of the surangular. Differs from Leiodon in its small adult size, the presence of an edentulous prow on the dentary, and a short maxillary– premaxillary suture.
