Xiaotingia was named by Xu et al. (2011). It is not extant. Its type is Xiaotingia zhengi.
It was assigned to Archaeopterygidae by Xu et al. (2011); to Deinonychosauria by Lee and Worthy (2011); to Avialae by Godefroit et al. (2013); to Paraves by O'Connor and Sullivan (2014) and Zhou and Wang (2017); to Troodontidae by Gianechini et al. (2017); and to Sinovenatorinae by Sellés et al. (2021).
