Taxonomy
Venerupis was named by Lamarck (1818) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Tapetinae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Veneridae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992) and Schneider et al. (2005).
