Taxonomy
Acrodobatis serra was named by Leidy (1877).

It was recombined as Ginglymostoma serra by Woodward (1889), Hay (1902), White (1926), Leriche (1942), Thurmond and Jones (1981) and dos Reis (2005); it was recombined as Nebrius serra by Cicimurri and Knight (2009).
