Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
B. L. Beatty 2010Apomorphies of taxon: cone-shaped, pointed frontal horn tip with roughened surface area for horn sheath to attach that is found on all sides of the horn tip; horn is oriented slightly anteromedially. Differences from Aletomeryx:frontal horn of Aletomeryx is pointed slightly posterolaterally; frontal horn tip of Aletomeryx is blunted, oval in cross-section, and has a short, rounded roughened surface area for the attachment of the horn sheath. Differences from Sinclairomeryx: frontal horn of Diabolocornis is significantly shorter; frontal horn of Sinclairomeryx is curved more strongly in the anteromedial direction; cross-section of frontal horn base on Sinclairomeryx is more ovoid, whereas frontal horn base cross-section of Diabolocornis is more triangular. Differences from Bouromeryx:frontal horns of Bouromeryx are longer, larger, straighter, flatter in cross-section, and oriented dorsally; the cone-shaped frontal horn tips of Bouromeryx are primarily roughened for the attachment of the horn sheath on the posterior side of the horn tip, with less of a roughened surface on the anterior, medial, and lateral
sides.
