Taxonomy
Macrotus was named by Gray (1843) [non Macrotus Leach 1816 (nomen nudum)]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Phyllostomatidae by Palmer (1904) and Choate and Birney (1968); and to Phyllostomidae by Morgan (1994).
