Ginglymostoma parvula was named by Dalinkevičius (1935). It is the type species of Orectoloboides.
It was recombined as Orectoloboides parvula by Cappetta (1977); it was recombined as Orectoloboides parvulus by Biddle (1993) and Underwood and Mitchell (1999).
