Ischyrhiza chilensis was named by Wetzel (1930) [
named by Gervais in Gay 1848]. Its type specimen is SGO-PV 807, SGO-PV 809, SGO-PV -810, a set of teeth (3 rostral teeth), and it is a 3D body fossil.
