Taxonomy
Cheloniceras was named by Hyatt (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti-l K Apti-u]. Its type is Ammonites cornuelianus. It is the type genus of Cheloniceratinae.
It was assigned to Cheloniceratidae by Förster (1975); to Ammonoidea by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cheloniceratinae by Murphy (1975), Renz (1982), Szives (2007), Futakami (2018) and El Qot (2018).
