Itsukisauropus was named by Azuma and Takeyama (1991). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Itsukisauropus izumiensis.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Tsukiji et al. (2019).

It was assigned to Theropoda by Azuma and Takeyama (1991); and to Theropoda by Fujita (2008).
