Sphyrna laevissima

Taxonomy
Galeocerdo laevissimus was named by Cope (1867). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is James T. Thomas estate, which is in a Serravallian offshore shelf horizon in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.

It was recombined as Carcharias laevissimus by Eastman (1904); it was recombined as Sphyrna laevissima by Leriche (1942), Casier (1958), Casier (1966), Reinecke and Radwanski (2015), Carrillo-Briceño et al. (2016) and Kent (2018).
