Taxonomy
Hamites virgulatus was named by Brongniart (1822) [DISTRIBUTION: Albian.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Stomohamites.

It was recombined as Torneutoceras virgulatum by Spath (1922); it was recombined as Hamites (Hamites) virgulatus by Förster (1975); it was recombined as Stomohamites virgulatus by Szives (2007).
