Taxonomy
Clidastes intermedius was named by Leidy (1870). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pickens County (PROXY), which is in a Santonian/Maastrichtian carbonate limestone in Alabama.
It was recombined as Platecarpus intermedius by Thurmond and Jones (1981); it was considered a nomen dubium by Konishi et al. (2010).
