Lophochelys niobrarae
Taxonomy
Lophochelys niobrarae was named by Zangerl (1953). Its type specimen is CNHM UR1, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is The Pyramids, 1 mile north, which is in a Coniacian/Santonian carbonate limestone in the Niobrara Formation of Kansas.
