Chelosphargis advena

Taxonomy
Protostega advena was named by Hay (1908). Its type specimen is KUVP 1209, a partial skeleton (plastron, twelve marginalia, two or three neuralia, and portions of two costal plates), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Niobrara, which is in a Santonian marine chalk in the Niobrara Formation of Kansas. It is the type species of Chelosphargis.

It was recombined as Chelosphargis advena by Zangerl (1953) and Thurmond and Jones (1981).
