Acrodobatis obliquus was named by Leidy (1877).
It was recombined as Ginglymostoma obliquum by Hay (1902), Fowler (1911), Leriche (1942) and Case (1981); it was synonymized subjectively with Ginglymostoma serra by Thurmond and Jones (1981); it was recombined as Nebrius obliquus by Leidy (1877), Noubhani and Cappetta (1997), Tabuce et al. (2005) and Boulemia and Adnet (2023).
