It was assigned to Pleuropterygia by Hay (1902); to Pleuropterygii by Jordan (1963); to Cladoselachii by Dean (1894) and Thurmond and Jones (1981); to Cladoselachida by Zangerl (1981) and Williams (2001); and to Cladoselachiformes by Ginter et al. (2010) and Nelson et al. (2016).
