Ebala was named by Gray (1847) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 1120]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Heterostrophia by Sepkoski (2002); to Ebalidae by Kaim (2004); and to Pyramidellidae by Wienrich and Janssen (2007).
