Cricetodon collatum was named by Schaub (1925). Its type specimen is UM 278, a set of teeth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Kuttingen, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in Switzerland. It is the type species of Eucricetodon.
It was recombined as Eucricetodon collatum by Schaub (1925) and Vianey-Liaud (1972).
