Taxonomy
Pecten perplanus was named by Morton (1833) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Gulf Coastal Plain]. Its type specimen is LSUGM 8053, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Aequipecten perplanus by Palmer and Brann (1965); it was recombined as Pecten (Pecten) perplanus by Dockery (1982).
