Taxonomy
Ostrea eldridgei was named by Arnold (1907) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Miocene; Eastern Pacific.]. Its type specimen is USNM 164966, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Crassostrea eldridgei by Addicott (1973); it was recombined as Pycnodonte (Crenostrea) eldridgei by Moore (1987); it was recombined as Crenostrea eldridgei by Hendy (2020).
