Taxonomy
Dasyatis speetonensis was named by Underwood et al. (1999). Its type specimen is LIVCM 1998.48.P, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bed C7H, Speeton,, which is in a Hauterivian transition zone/lower shoreface claystone in the Speeton Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
