Cyphoma was named by Röding (1798) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 551]. It is extant. Its type is Bulla gibbosa.

It was reranked as Ovula (Cyphoma) by Dautzenberg (1900).

It was assigned to Ovula by Dautzenberg (1900); to Volvini by Schilder (1941); to Ovulidae by Todd (2001); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
