Talantodiscus was named by Fischer (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: J Plie J Bajo]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Pleurotomaria (Talantodiscus) by Marwick (1953).

It was assigned to Pleurotomaria by Marwick (1953); to Porcelliidae by Knight et al. (1960); to Archaeogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pleurotomariidae by Begg and Grant-Mackie (2003).
