Oplosaurus armatus

Oplosaurus armatus was named by Gervais (1859) [Listed in this reference as having been published by Gervais in 1852, but does not appear in that work.]. Its type specimen is BMNH R.964, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Brixton Bay sauropod (BMNH), which is in a Valanginian/Barremian marine claystone in the United Kingdom. It is the type species of Oplosaurus.

It was recombined as Pelorosaurus armatus by Lydekker (1889); it was synonymized subjectively with Pelorosaurus hulkei by Steel (1970); it was synonymized subjectively with Pelorosaurus conybeari by McIntosh (1990); it was misspelled as Hoplosaurus armatus by Woodward and Sherborn (1890), Lydekker (1890), Lydekker (1893), Lydekker (1893), Lydekker (1893), Lydekker (1895), Van Den Broeck (1900) and Nopcsa (1901); it was considered a nomen dubium by Naish and Martill (2001) and Ruiz-Omeñaca and Canudo (2003).
