Taxonomy
Halitherium olseni was named by Reinhart (1976). Its type specimen is UF/FGS V6094, a skull (skull), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Crenatosiren olseni by Domning (1991), Domning (1994), Domning (1996), Domning (1997), Domning (2008), Voss (2014).
