Belemnoziphius compressus

Taxonomy
Belemnoziphius compressus was named by Huxley (1864) [no type specimen number listed by Huxley (1864)]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Blackheath, which is in a Piacenzian foreshore horizon in the Red Crag Formation of the United Kingdom.

It was recombined as Dioplodon compressus by Van Beneden and Gervais (1880); it was recombined as Mesoplodon compressus by Lydekker (1887), Newton (1891), Trouessart (1898), Trouessart (1904); it was recombined as Dioplodon compressior by Vigliarolo (1894); it was synonymized subjectively with Mesoplodon longirostris by Abel (1905), Fordyce (1991).
