Taxonomy
Diplosaurus felix was named by Marsh (1877). Its type specimen is YPM 517, a partial skeleton (Dorsal portion of skull and postcrania), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Goniopholis felix by Hay (1902), Hay (1930).
