Ammonites centriglobus was named by Oppel (1862).

It was recombined as Cymbites centriglobus by Buckman (1894), Meister (1986), Meister (1989), Smith and Tipper (1996); it was recombined as Metacymbites centriglobus by Imlay (1968), Howarth (2013).
