Taxonomy
Cyphomyia mexicana was named by Poinar and Fachin (2024). Its type specimen is Poinar M-7-235, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Mexican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
