Liotrigona (Tapheiotrigona) aethiopica was named by Engel (2022). Its type specimen is SEMC F002517, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Ethiopian amber (SEMC collection), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Ethiopia.
