Ceini was named by Boucek (1961). It is extant.

It was reranked as the subfamily Ceinae by Darling (1996), Moser et al. (2021); it was reranked as the family Ceidae by Burks et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Pteromalidae by Darling (1996), Moser et al. (2021); and to Chalcidoidea by Burks et al. (2022).
