Anthoboscidae was named by Rohwer (1911). It is extant. Its type is Anthobosca.

It was reranked as the subfamily Anthoboscinae by Darling (1990), Pilgrim et al. (2008).

It was assigned to Vespoidea by Rohwer (1911); to Tiphidae by Darling (1990); and to Thynnidae by Pilgrim et al. (2008).
