Anancus
Taxonomy
Anancus was named by Aymard (1855). It is not extant. It is the type genus of Anancinae.
It was assigned to Elephantiformes by Shoshani and Tassy (1996); to Elephantidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); to Gomphotheriidae by Carroll (1988), Lambert and Shoshani (1998); to Elephantoidea by Kalb and Frohelich (1995), Shoshani and Tassy (2005); and to Anancinae by Sanders (2007), Hautier et al. (2009), Cregut-Bonnoure and Tsoukala (2017).
