Taxonomy
Palaeophillipsia was named by Sugiyama and Okano (1944) [Sepkoski's age data: C l Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant. Its type is Palaeophillipsia japonica.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Linguaphillipsiinae by Kobayashi and Hamada (1980), Hahn et al. (2003).
