Microchiroptera was named by Dobson (1875). It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Animalivora by Gregory (1910), Hay (1930).
It was assigned to Chiropteri by Jaekel (1911); to Microchiropteramorpha by Harrison and Hooker (2010); and to Chiroptera by Flower (1883), Flower and Lydekker (1891), McKenna (1975), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Hooker (1986), Carroll (1988), Czaplewski (1991), Gunnell et al. (2003), Gunnell et al. (2008), Ravel et al. (2016).
