Arcestes trompianus was named by Mojsisovics (1882). It is not extant. Its type locality is Marcheno in Val Trompia, which is in an Anisian carbonate limestone in Italy.
It was recombined as Proarcestes trompianus by Ogilvie Gordon (1927).
