Stalicoolithus was named by Wang et al. (2012). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Stalicoolithus shifengensis. It is the type genus of Stalicoolithidae.

It was assigned to Stalicoolithidae by Wang et al. (2012) and Zhu et al. (2019).
