Moschops was named by Broom (1911). It is not extant. Its type is Moschops capensis.

It was assigned to Dinocephalia by Broom (1913); to Moschopidae by Boonstra (1936); to Moschopinae by Boonstra (1969); to Tapinocephalidae by Carroll (1988); and to Tapinocephalini by King (1988).

Agnosaurus pienaari was named by Boonstra (1952). It is not extant. Its type locality is Lammerskraal, which is in a Capitanian terrestrial horizon in South Africa.

It was considered a nomen dubium by Boonstra (1969).
