Taxonomy
Protocardia (Grypocardia) gryphaeata was named by Guo (1988). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Geological Museum of China, IVy0695. Its type locality is Yueliangping, Jianchuan (Maichuqing Formation), which is in a Rhaetian marine horizon in the Maichuqing Formation of China. It is the type species of Protocardia (Grypocardia).
