Aviculomyalina williamsi was named by McLearn (1941). Its type specimen is Geological Survey Ottawa, No. 8764 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pardonet Hill (poyana Zone), which is in a Triassic marine horizon in Canada.
It was recombined as Mysidioptera williamsi by Newton et al. (1987).
