Adelginae was named by Annand (1928). It is extant. Its type is Adelges.

It was reranked as the family Adelgidae by Wegierek (2003), Heie and Wegierek (2011), Szwedo (2018).

It was assigned to Phylloxeridae by Annand (1928); to Phylloxeroidea by Wegierek (2003); and to Adelgoidea by Heie and Wegierek (2011), Szwedo (2018).
