Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
F. M. Anderson 1958Test thick, outline of valves subtrigonal, umbones rounded, low, extended posteriorly, with short winglike extensions before and behind, as seen from the side ; beaks a little in ad vance of central, incurved above the ligamental area, not closely approximate; shell slightly flattened on the sides ; basal margin broadly rounded or nearly straight ; surface of shell al most smooth, marked by concentric lines of growth and by faint radial lines on anterior part of shell. Hinge line long, with numerous short vertical teeth in central third of hinge, and long lateral teeth, 2 or more at each end ; ligamental area marked by 6-8 chevronlike grooves, sloping outwardly to hinge line. This species in some respects resembles Cucullaea truncata Gabb, and appears to belong in its group, but it has broader and more rounded umbones, a longer hinge line, more numerous central, vertical teeth, and less conspicuous radial lines, which are confined to the anterior part of the shell.
